This house satisfies our dear clients’ wish to have a new house very similar to the one they were living in at the time we first met with them. The existing house was too low, it needed new electrical and plumbing, new windows and doors, all new bathrooms and kitchen and new Family Room addition and Garage. So we, in fact, gave them a new house with the same traditional Cape Cod look and the same red door but with added dormers and higher ceilings inside. The floor plan was similar as well except for the family addition and garage apartment.
The owners are collectors of artifacts gathered on their travels and they desired to organize these treasures and show them off properly in their new home. We lined many of the hallways with display cases and placed them in the Family Room and Stair Hall as well. The Family Room has an African theme because these owners have visited Africa 18 times and have acquired many objets d’art from various countries there. The cabinetry is painted except for in the Library and Kitchen where the woodwork is stained mahogany. The exterior was given a weathered shingled look and the back porch off the Family Room is ideal for visiting with friends and enjoying their garden. Many other exterior vintage items are displayed outside as well. They certainly feel as if they are in an updated version of their old house but with everything new that they wanted.
L. Barry Davidson Architects was the architect and interior designer on this house, completed in December 2015.
